May 28, 2012 · How can I use an Apple Airport Extreme with an AT&T 2Wire modem/router? My AT&T 2Wire modem/router does not have great range, speed, or compatibility with my Macbook and iMac. I bought an Apple Airport Extreme to try to remedy my problem, however, I did not realize it was purely a router.
I purchased a SmartHub hoping I could use it as a modem and continue to use my Apple Extreme as the WiFi router. But seems that the SmartHub Ethernet jack is an Input not an Output. I did finally get the SmartHub to recognize the Extreme by it will not send an internet signal to it. I can get the two to work together o.k providing I don't use any security, however; as soon as I enable WEP 128bit for both nuits, the airport does not connect to the WNDR3700. I have an old Airport Extreme (3rd Generation) connected to the main router via Cat5 Ethernet. I am able to view security settings on my main router on my web browser, but I do not understand the technical terms. I read that I have to set up the Airport Extreme as a new network, using the same network name, password, and security settings.
