WiFi access points (WAPs), and extenders/repeaters (sometimes also known as boosters) are often confused. This is partly due to the fact that some devices can be placed in different modes allowing them to do several things, including extending/boosting a WiFi signal, as well as act as an Access Point depending on network requirements. Range extenders are a kind of wireless repeater. They do not broadcast a unique Wi-Fi signal, but instead rebroadcast the signal already created by an access point. As such, they usually sit in between an access point and a network's most distant clients, helping to extend the usable range of that network.
The quality of WiFi signal strength received by the wireless repeater will be the same WiFi signal strength distributed. Latency, or WiFi network response time, is typically increased. If you need a short hop, have less than 5 wireless devices and are not going to stream anything, a repeater might work – but I doubt it.
